TAP Air Portugal is currently offering some impressively low Business Class deals for travel between New York and London via Portugal. The majority of the better deals are to be found from August onwards but there’s limited availability from as early as next month.
Prices for the roundtrip Business Class deals that I’ve been seeing start at around $1,600, but the price you eventually pay may be higher if you choose to minimize the time you spend on the ground in Portugal (more on that a little later).
Availability
This is the (mostly) unfiltered availability that Google Flights is showing for TAP Air Portugal Business Class fares for travel between New York and London from April onwards for 7-night stays:

As you should be able to see, availability before June is tough to find but once we’re into summer, the good fare starts becoming a lot easier to find.
Key to know
The best fares are available for travel that includes at least one overnight layover in Portugal…
…but there are still some very good deals to be had if you prefer not to spend any more time in Portugal than you absolutely have to:
While the option without a long layover may be more expensive, the price differential is reduced once you take into account the fact that you would have to pay for a night’s accommodation in Portugal when booking the cheaper fare.
Keep an eye on what aircraft you’re booking
TAP Air Portugal operates wide-body and narrow-body aircraft out of New York…
…and with the seats in the wide-body A330-900neo being considerably more comfortable than the seats in the narrow-body A321s (you’ll see the A330-900neo Business Class seat in this post’s featured picture), that’s the aircraft you should be trying to book where possible.
Don’t forget
Make sure you get the best deal out of whatever fare you book by using a credit card that gives you a good return on your travel spending and, preferably, one that also comes with good travel protections.
The Platinum Card® from American Express (review) earns 5 points/dollar for spending made directly with airlines (terms apply), the Business Platinum® Card from American Express earns 5 points/dollar for flights booked through Amex Travel (terms apply), while the Chase Sapphire Reserve® Card (review) earns 3 points/dollar for just about all travel spending. Importantly, all three of these cards offer good trip delay, interruption, and cancellation protection.
It’s worth noting that the Citi Prestige Card (no longer open to new applicants) matches the Platinum Card with its earnings of 5 points/dollar on spending made directly with airlines, but the fact that it offers no travel protections at all makes it a considerably less appealing option.
Bottom line
TAP Air Portugal is currently offering roundtrip Business Class fares as low as $1,596 for travel between New York and London. The best deals are to be found for travel from August onwards although limited availability can be found in the preceding months.
