Best Use of Citi ThankYou Points
My husband and I each had this card several years ago. We used the points to book an all-inclusive resort in Puerto Vallarta. When we applied back then, the bonus was 50k. The current bonus of 80k is a GREAT DEAL!
If you and your spouse each get this card, you could book $1600 worth of travel through Citi’s travel portal. That’s not too shabby!
But I think there is even more value to be had in transferring points to Citi’s travel partners. Air France, Avianca, JetBlue…17 options! I’ve had great luck using Air France Flying Blue miles to get my family to Europe on lie-flat business class seats.
Who Will Get Approved?
In the past, Citi has been sensitive to applicants with a lot of credit inquiries.
Citi application rules: You cannot get the bonus if you’ve received the bonus on the Citi Rewards+, Citi ThankYou Preferred, Citi Prestige or Citi Premier in the past 24 months. You are also ineligible for the bonus if you’ve closed any of those cards within the past 24 months. Citi will only approve one card every 8 days or two cards every 65 days.
I really wanted to get this card again last year, but it hadn’t been 24 months since I closed my card. But this year, I’ve waited long enough. My husband and I plan to apply for this card later TODAY! I’ll let you know if we are approved.
