Any opinions expressed in this post are my own, and have not been reviewed, approved, or endorsed by my advertising partners. I do not write about all credit cards that are available — instead focusing on miles, points, and cash back (and currencies that can be converted into the same). Terms apply to the offers and benefits listed on this page.
The Bilt Mastercard, the no annual fee card that lets you earn points paying rent at no cost (up to $50,000 per year) and earns double points on travel and triple points on dining, has a new limited-time bonus category.
Through October 31 cardholders earn 3X on gas on up to $1,250 in net purchases as gas stations.
This promotional offer is valid beginning on will earn rewards points (1 base plus 2 bonus) for every $1 spent on net gas purchases (purchases minus returns/credits) subject to the Bilt World Elite Mastercard Credit Card Rewards Program Terms and Conditions.
Merchants in the gas category include gas stations, automated fuel dispensers, and electric vehicle charging stations. The following may not earn bonus points: gas or electric vehicle charging purchases at warehouse/membership clubs, grocery stores, car washes, auto repair stores and superstores that sell gasoline or electric vehicle charging.
Amount of bonus points you can earn under this promotion is 2,500 The maximum points (which is $1,250 in net purchases), regardless of how much you purchase. Purchases not processed using the Merchant Codes for Mastercard mentioned above will not qualify for bonus points.
Note that you still need 5 transactions a month to earn points, including on gas, and it can take up to a week for the bonus points to post.
Each Bilt point can be spent at 1.25 cents apiece towards travel through their portal or transferred 1:1 into:
- Star Alliance: Air Canada Aeroplan, Turkish Miles & Smiles, United Airlines MileagePlus
- oneworld: American AAdvantage, Cathay Pacific Asia Miles, British Airways Executive Club, Iberia Plus
- SkyTeam: Air France KLM Flying Blue
- Non-alliance: Emirates Skywards, Virgin Atlantic Flying Club, Hawaiian Airlines HawaiianMiles, Aer Lingus Aer Club
- Hotels: Hyatt, IHG Rewards
I value Bilt points at around 1.7 cents apiece, though I could be argued into 1.8 cents. At 3 points per dollar on gas you could potentially get the same value out of spend in the category on a Business Gold Rewards or Everyday Preferred card. But you’re not really going to do materially better on gas up to the spending cap on this offer over the next couple of months.
This isn’t the first limited-time bonus Bilt has offered, for instance they offered a bonus on holiday shopping purchases and they’ve offered bonuses for linking your airline and hotel accounts. So in addition to continually adding value to the card like new transfer partners, a travel portal to spend points at 1.25 cents, and an Amazon partnership they’re giving you more reasons to spend on the card.
