Flight Diverts After Passenger Attacks Cabin Crew Over Lack Of Free Champagne (In Coach)

Before the pandemic Delta introduced welcome cocktails in coach. That should have been a sign things were about to head south. Like Icarus flying too close to the sun, economy just isn’t supposed to be like that. It’s more like British package holiday airline Jet2. And anyone flying Jet2 knows passengers are more likely to bring their own alcohol on board and wind up going viral in social media than they are to get free drinks on board.

On a recent Jet2 flight from Manchester, U.K. to Rhodes, Greece, an elderly woman slapped a member of the cabin crew because she was denied champagne. Another flight attendant restrains her. And the flight diverts to Munich, Germany where she was arrested.

@megan_mellors18 Whats a holiday without a bit of drama🤷‍♀️ nice emergency diversion to germany #jet2 #emergencylanding #arrested #munich ♬ Oh No – Kreepa

According to a spokesperson for the airline,

We can confirm that flight LS819 from Manchester to Rhodes was diverted to Munich Airport so that a disruptive passenger could be offloaded. We would like to apologise to customers for this unforeseen delay and any inconvenience caused.

In 2019 a woman was banned from TAP Air Portugal after a meltdown over not being served Pepsi. Alcohol wasn’t even involved. But since this was Jet2 there’s no way it wasn’t about a passenger’s deep need to drink.
