Capital One Launches New Airport Lounge Concept With José Andrés

Capital One has been rapidly building out a slate of travel, dining and entertainment services to position itself as a premium brand for high end consumers. There are airport lounges, special restaurant tables set aside for cardmembers, a new dining, sports and music entertainment platform, and travel portal and now also a premium hotel collection with added rewards and benefits.

While they have only one of their own airport lounges, at Dallas – Fort Worth so far, the premium Venture X card comes with Priority Pass and they’ve also added over 100 partner lounges thanks largely to working with Plaza Premium Group.

We’re still waiting on the Denver and Washington Dulles Capital One lounges, now expected to open next year, and for more to be announced. But Capital One is also announcing a new lounge concept and its first two airports: New York LaGuardia and Washington National.

These will be called Capital One Landings, and will be culinary-focused. José Andrés Group is designing a food and beverage menu focused on Spanish-style tapas.

  • Washington National Airport (DCA) will be 5,483 square feet, located immediately post-security at the entrance to Concourse D. All of terminal 2’s concourses are now connected post-security (only the old ‘banjo’ terminal is not).

  • New York LaGuardia (LGA) will be 10,700 square feet, on a terminal B sky bridge, featuring both indoor and outdoor spaces with views of airport operations and of Manhattan.

According to José Andrés, with whom Capital One is also partnering on its dining portal,

Travel is a huge part of my life, and food is deeply linked to the travel experience. It’s the best way to learn about a place and its people. But as someone who spends a lot of time in airports, many times I find myself wanting more.

When Capital One came to us with the idea of creating a new kind of dining experience, our team immediately started to think of the Spanish tapas way of eating with the bounty of American farms and traditions – the very best of both countries. We cannot wait to share these new Capital One Landings with the people of the world!

These ‘Capital One Landings’ will have seating for guests with outlets, but not workspaces. They will have restrooms (unlike, say, United’s ‘Club Lite’ concept). And they’ll be designed both for sit-down dining and for grab and go.
