The United Airlines tier status challenge, as part of Bilt Rent Day, is now live in the Bilt Rewards app. All Bilt Rewards members are entitled to United Airlines status, and anyone can join Bilt Rewards.
Through November 1, Bilt Rewards members can (1) link their United MileagePlus account in the Bilt app, and (2) sign up for a ‘tier status challenge’.
- Good for 120 days of elite status, starting November 1
- And a challenge to keep the status through January 2024
Bilt Rewards members without status (what you get when you sign up) receive United Silver and a status challenge to keep silver status. Meanwhile, Bilt Rewards members with elite status (I have status from spending on my Bilt Mastercard) can sign up for United Gold with a challenge to keep that status.
- Silver challenge: earning 1000 Premier Qualifying Points and taking 4 qualifying United (or United Express) flights
- Gold challenge: earning 2000 Premier Qualifying Points and taking 6 qualifying United (or United Express) flights

There really shouldn’t be anyone who wants United Airlines status over the next few months who does not have that status, thanks to this offer. The only exception is if you’ve done a status match or challenge with United in the past three years (the terms say that makes you ineligible) or you plan to do one in the next three (this one might prevent that). However a status challenge that doesn’t even require you to have existing status with an airline is impressive. If you do have top level airline status, you may be better off with a Premier Status Challenge since higher levels than Gold are available.

Silver status gets you better boarding and check-in priority, free checked bags, and extra legroom seats at check-in. Gold ads Star Alliance Gold status and extra legroom seats at booking, plus the occasional upgrade. Dedicated elite phone lines can help avoid long hold times.
Here are the full terms for the United Silver status challenge for Bilt general members:

2. Registration is required by November 1, 2022, (11:59:59 p.m. CT) through the Bilt app.
3. Members who register will be awarded complimentary Premier Silver status within five to seven business days after registering through the Bilt app.
4. Complimentary Premier Silver status will be effective for 120 days starting from November 1, 2022. (“Challenge Period”)
5. Complimentary Premier Silver status will be reflected in a member’s MileagePlus account. You may enjoy Premier benefits on flights operated by United and United Express by providing your MileagePlus account number when making reservations or at check-in. During the Challenge Period, you may not have access to all reciprocal Premier benefits, including access to Star Alliance benefits, with United’s partner airlines.
6. To earn Premier Silver status and the associated benefits after the Challenge Period, members must meet the following “Qualifying Travel Requirements” during the Challenge Period: Earn at least 1,000 Premier qualifying points (PQP) and 4 Premier qualifying flights (PQF) on flights operated by United or United Express.
7. All travel must be completed within the Challenge Period and no later than March 1, 2023.
8. Members who meet the Qualifying Travel Requirements prior to July 1, 2023, will earn Premier Silver status that will be valid through January 31, 2024, and members who meet the Qualifying Travel
Requirements on or after July 1, 2023, will earn Premier Silver status that will be valid through January 31, 2025.
9. If members with complimentary Premier Silver status are unable to meet the Qualifying Travel Requirements before the end of the Challenge Period, the MileagePlus Premier Silver status will expire, and you may be returned to a lower earned Premier level, or general member status, at United’s sole discretion.
10. Members who earn Premier Silver status through this promotion will have their accounts updated within five to seven business days of meeting the Qualifying Travel Requirements.
11. PQP and PQF earned on flights operated by United or United Express during the Challenge Period, will count toward meeting the Qualifying Travel Requirements; however, any bonus PQP and PQF, promotional PQP and PQF and/or credit card PQP do not count toward the Qualifying Travel Requirements.
12. Flights on award travel tickets, and other tickets that do not earn Premier qualifying credits, do not qualify for meeting the requirements of this offer.
13. PQP is defined as all PQP credited during the Challenge Period.
14. Through this offer, you will not be able to qualify for a higher Premier status level than the complimentary Premier Silver status you receive. For example, you will not be able to earn Premier Gold status through this offer, even if you earn more than 1,000 PQP during the Challenge Period.
